WIP and Muses: Writing Goals, Goodreads Contest Win, and Sarah J Maas

So it’s the end of the week, and with the rain outside and two sleepy kitties in the other room, I figured it’s the perfect time to fill you guys in on a writing update.

Last month, I made a goal to write 1,500 words a day for two months. My motivation for this was 1) my in-progress novel, Sentinel Crooke, and 2) I used the writing goal as a motivating factor to stop buying books for the two months and, if I succeed, I can reward myself with a book haul. I don’t know if you guys are like me, but I REALLY need to cut back on my book buying- at least, I need to give myself something to work towards to justify my book buying.

For real, it’s a problem. Girls usually go on a trip o pamper themselves in some way… I can’t stop treating myself to books (to me, that’s pampering!).

I’m happy to say that I’ve succeeded so far and I’m only five days away from my first milestone- the one month mark. At that point, I’ll treat myself to 2 books from a bookstore and a library haul that I’ll share with you guys.

My cluttered desk 💜

I have been taking out a lot of reference books from the library recently, so next time I’ll grab some fun books. I’m thinking some Sarah J Maas? A good friend referred her books to me so I’m excited to try her out!

One of the most fun bit of news I can share is I won a Goodreads contest! WHAT?! I know, I’m probably the unluckiest person ever when it comes to gambling/contests. I never win ANYTHING! I’m so SO happy to say that I won a Warcross ARC by Marie Lu and I’ve been devouring it. I love loooooove love her writing and her books- I’ve read The Royal Elites series and want to check out the rest of her books, but Warcross so far is so much fun to read. Since I have read some of her stuff before, I’m thinking of doing a book review for you guys so you can see my thoughts on it. How does that sound?

As far as my own writing goes, I didn’t actually write a short story this week (whomp whomp) but I edited two and have gone full speed ahead with my normal story. I’m about 1/3 of the way through Sentinel Crooke, maybe even halfway, so I’m right on track with my goal of finishing it my August 12th. The first draft, that is. Then I will do the rough drafts and start outlining the second in the series.

Do you guys have daily writing goals, too? I’m thinking of doing flash fiction prompts to get inspiration for short stories. Sometimes, I just have a hard time thinking of other stories when I’m so engrossed in Sentinel’s story.

I’m glad you guys have been enjoying my posts! I have more fun things in store for you guys, so stay tuned!
