Reminiscing About School Reads

Everyone’s heading back to school, and it sent me on a trip through these dusty memories of mine  aaaaall about the different types of books that had been placed into my literature-loving hands, once-upon-a-time. I can practically hear you calling me a nerd from here, thank you very much. There were actually some incredible reads…                                                                            … and some truly, truly horrible ones. I just… I still haven’t gotten over them. I don’t know about you, but I fancied myself a true lit junkie in high school. My electives were all writing-based, my senior project was spent working with my English teacher trying (and… learning how) to write a book. So naturally, I had to pick the most “classic” and the “best” books to read when we were given the option. Which was how I discovered my hatred for Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I didn’t even get far in the book. I didn’t even try. I just stopped and listened to the insipid summary in class and honestly my teacher didn’t even blame me for …

WIPs and Life Updates

Today’s writing-in-progress post is more of a status and personal update, guys, rather than an announcement of anything new… I know I know… It’s a bit unfortunate, but I don’t have many new things going on despite (likely because of, actually) the fact that I feel like my entire life has gone through the washing machine. I feel like Emperor Kuzko in The Emperor’s New Groove. I have to admit that I haven’t gotten much farther in my writing since the last update, besides the fact that I’m steadily continuing with my second draft rewrites, and I’m planning (or attempting to plan!) a few more series in the fantasy genre. On the Brightside, these rewrites are much less… painful… than I thought they would be. I had a very clear idea of what kind of story I needed to write when I started out, so I’m pretty happy with how the first draft looks. But a lot of scenes need to be redone and whole character arcs need to be fleshed out (those pesky characters …

Current Reads | February 2018

Hi guys 🙂 It’s February and I managed to finish all my January books in January (shush- I know I only had two in my January reads…). But, I finished them! And I actually finished all my December books, too. I didn’t realize The Book of Dust by Philip Pullman was going to take so long… I think I may do a Book Chat video on that. What do you think? A Book Chat video would probably be most fun because I’m dying to know what you guys thought about the book… lol I need to get some discussion going here.   Anywhoooo I got a little more courageous and picked more than two books to finish this month 🙂 First off, I went to the library and picked up Grace of Kings by Ken Liu and Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. I’ve started both and they’re very good, and they couldn’t be more different from eachother. Grace of Kings reminds me of Tales of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin for …

Current Reads | January 2018

Wow… never would I have thought I’d be so annoyed about having snow days. It royally messed with all my projects and deadlines I set for myself. Do any of you have a day job that you just have to use your PTO for snow days? No? Am I the only one so LUCKY? I worked over time, for hours, every day this week to make up for those snow days. To break up my time at lunch, I’d sit down and read one of the two books I picked up to read this month and I’m honestly more than half way through both of them so I feel like I’m going to have to pick up some more books… is there such thing as a “Current Reads Update?” lol Because I might have to do one in a week and pick another book for January, because I am DEVOURING these books. I picked up Monstress by Marjorie Liu with art by Sana Takeda, and I’ll be 100% honest with you… this is my second …
